2018

Kriti was home alone as all the family members had gone to Kuldevi's temple to see lessings as she scored eighty nine percent in twelfth standard exams. She was unable t o because of periods that came along with cramps. She was lazily dressed sleeping i ome weird position on the couch of the living room to lessen the pain but alas, it pained ot.

Suddenly she heard honking from the front yard but she was too lazy to sit up straight an ook through the window. She thought whoever it was would eventually leave, getting n esponse. As the continuous honking subsided she thought the person left but the ringing o he doorbell started. Continuous ringing with no intention of stopping. Kriti, having zer urvival skills, got up to open the door without doubting that the person on the other sid oor might be suspicious. But she, being herself, opened the door looking annoyed an ame face to face with Aarav.

"Kya kaam hai tumhe?", she asked, annoyed.

(Why are you here?)

"Arre, tumse milne ke liye kaam thodi hona chahiye”,he replied.

(So now to meet you I have to have a reason?)

"Tumhe kaha hai na ghar ke aas paas bhi mat aaya karo. Kisi ko pata chal gaya toh daan adegi ", she said.

(I have told you numerous times to not roam around my house. If someone gets to know, ill be scolded.)

"Haa,pata hai par mujhe tumhe kuch dikhana hai. Chalo mere saath aur zara taiyar ho jay um bahar jaa rahe hai", he said.

(Yes but I wanted to show you something.Get ready and come with me.)

.

"Kaha, kyu, koi kaam hai?", her train of questions stopped when he intervened and said, "

Kabhi toh ek baar mein kaam kiya karo. Surprise hai".

(Where? Why? What's the reason) ( For once, do what I'm saying. It's a surprise.)

"Chup tha and vadhu hoshiyaar na ban”, she said but she rushed upstairs to get ready afte earing the word surprise.

(Shut up and don't try to be over smart.)

After a few minutes she came down wearing a cute pink crop top and athleisure pants, he traight hair in a pony and her green eyes sparkling. Her fair skin gleaming as if she'd jus oisturized it.

He was mesmerized seeing her. Even though she hadn't outdone or overdone herself sh ooked at comfort and he liked that. Or maybe he liked her.

His attention was diverted from her when she said, " chalo abhi". Walking ahead she too he keys of her home from the front table.

(Let's go.)

He followed her and noticed how she came to stop after noticing a car parked outside he ront yard near the wall compound. "Koi fir se gaadi laga ke chala gaya, security uncle k ehna padega. Keva doba loko che".

(Someone parked the car and left. I'll have to tell security about it. Dumb people.)

" I am that doba kyuki ye car meri hai", he said nonchalantly.

(That's my car.)

"Jhootha, tere paas gaadi nahi hai. Aur tere family ke paas alag car hai ye wali nahi", sh ogically answered.

(Liar, you don't have a car. And the one your family owns is different.)

"Kitne sawal karti hai. Ye car pappa ne gift de hai kyuki boards mein eighty percent aaye na",

he answered.

(You have so many questions. Dad gifted it to me because I got eighty percent in boar xaminations.)

"Party de nai gaadi ki and wo jo tu driving lessons leta tha wo abhi kaam aayenge ab. Abs u hi mera driver, mujhe jaha bhi jana hoga tu leke jaana." She declared.

(Give me a party on the occasion of buying a car and the driving lessons you took came i andy today. From now on you are my driver, wherever I want to go, you will take me.)

"Theek hai maate, abhi chal baith", he directed her towards the car and opened the door fo er.

(Okay, sit.)

"Chivalrous ", she mumbled under her breath but he heard it.

He got in and started driving through the whole city. They stopped at the bridge overlookin he tapi river. They got out of the car and looked at the beautiful scene in front of them wher he sunset was meeting the river.

They were silently enjoying the moment when Aarav asked, " Acha ek baat bata, do you lik nything about me?"

"I do actually ", she said, still facing the river, " I like your dimpled cheeks when you smile".

Saying this she turned to face him and saw the exact smile she was talking about on his hig heekbones with his tousled brown hair because of the gusting wind and twinkling brow yes. All of this on his olive skin made him look handsome but she won't admit that.

Before he could speak she said, "Now tell me what do you like about me?"

Without a beat he replied, " I like your eyes. The way they shine when you laugh or whe ou are happy and not otherwise ". It was obvious that he'd definitely thought of this before.

They both held intense eye contact. His brown eyes peered into her green ones askin nswers of unsaid questions. Her eyes wanted to know about all the secrets he'd kept fro er.

Their eye contact was broken by the ringing of his phone. He picked it up and turned around,

talking to someone. She stood there facing tapi, thinking of all the emotions she was feelin hen she was with him. She was afraid of deciphering or naming it. But she also wanted t xplore the other side. She was brave in front of the whole world but in front of Aarav sh idn't have the guts to tell him about her feelings at the stake of their friendship. He houghts were dismayed, creating a haywire in her mind.

He came back and said, " I think aapde javu joiye. Tari family pan pochti hase and emn oiye lidhu toh vandho padse".

(I think we should leave. Your family must be arriving and if they see us together,

circumstances won't be good.)

She gave a nod and got into the car.

At the age of eighteen she felt fondness for him.
