The coming Sunday was decided for meeting the parents. Kriti was going to first meet Aarav's parents and later on Aarav would meet Kriti's.
Kriti walked towards Odedras place across the street and rang the bell and Aarav opened the door. He pulled her inside and gently kissed her forehead. They walked hand in hand from the foyer to the living room. His parents were sitting there discussing something when their eyes went towards the beautiful girl standing in front of them. Wearing a soft pink kurti with white linen pants, hair neatly braided, bindi resting between her brows. She did the classic jai shree krishna gesture and Aarav knew that his parents were convinced.
"Jai shree krishna, beso ne tame, ubha kem cho?", Roopali said.
(Please take a seat, why are you standing?)
Aarav proudly introduced her, "Mummy, pappa meet her, my girlfriend, Kriti Patel".
Hearing the Patel surname his dad instantly knew who she was as her face seemed familiar to him meanwhile his naive, innocent mom had no clue.
"Kriti beta ghar dhoondhne mein koi problem nahi hui na?", his mother asked politely.
(Kriti I hope you didn't find it difficult to search for our house.)
Kriti said, "no aunty"'.
“Kriti maine apko kahi dekha hua lag raha hai”, Roopali said.
(I have seen you somewhere)
“I live in the neighborhood, aunty”, Kriti said.
"Kriti aap kaam kya karte ho?", Hiten asked.
(Kriti, what work do you do?)
Before kriti could answer, Aarav intervened and said, "she's a designer ".
Aarav was still holding hands with her, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles with a feather of touch. This made her decrease her nervousness and she was internally swooning of his gestures.
"Ye toh bohot acchi baat hai ", Roopali said.
(That's great!)
"Aapke pappa ka kis cheez ka kaam hai?", Hiten asked, already knowing the answer.
(Kriti, what does your dad do?)
"Unka clothing business hai, Patel's Paridhan ", there it was, she'd dropped the bomb.
(He has a clothing business, Patel's Paridhan.)
"Aarav, tu toh game khel gaya", his dad said laughing lightly. Aarav, out of embarrassment, scratched his neck.
(Aarav you pulled a fast one.)
"Aarav mujhe koi problem nahi hai agar tujhe Kriti pasand ho toh par uske parents ko pata ha ya?", Roopali asked.
( Aarav I have no issues if you like Kriti but do her parents know about your relationship?)
"Aunty, iske baad mere yaha hi jane wale hai humlog, mere parents ko samjhane", Kriti said.
(Aunty, after completing here we are going to my parent's place.)
"Agar tumhare parents ko koi problem nahi hai toh fir hum God-dhana ceremony ke liye taiyari kar sakte hai", Hiten said, making both of them release a sigh of relief.
(If your parents also agree then we have no problem. We can make arrangements for the engagement ceremony.)
They knew they'd won this round but the next round of convincing her parents was going to be tougher than either of them thought.
"Paas mein hi rehti ho toh aati jana ab se. Mai aur tumhari mummy bohot baar milte hai sabzi wale ke paas. Aur tum toh Bilkul unke jaise hi dikhti ho", Roopali said, making Kriti blush out of shyness.
(Visit us sometimes as you live across the street. Me and your mom meet frequently while grocery shopping and you look just like your mom.)
After chit chatting for a while both of them went to Kriti's place. Krunal opened the door and le hem come in. They were holding hands but as her mom came into view Kriti dropped his hand.
Aarav was perplexed.
"Aavo, aavo, Kriti na boyfriend cho ne tame?", Palak asked, directing his question at Aarav.
(Please come, are you Kriti's boyfriend.?)
"Haa aunty", Aarav answered.
(Yes.)
"Come this way", Palak guided them towards the living room, completely ignoring her own daughter.
"Pappa, Kaka, kaki, mummy meet him. He's Aarav my boyfriend", Kriti said internally nervous about the circumstances which would follow once they know the truth.
"Jai shree krishna everyone ", Aarav said.
"Kriti, tell his whole name", Krunal said. Kriti narrowed his eyes at him indicating that he was so dead once all of this was over.
"I am Aarav Odedra ", Aarav said.
"Odedra means the Odedra from Odedra and Wardrobe?", Kalpesh asked, maintaining a calm tone but he was furious.
"Yes uncle", Aarav answered.
"Tumne meri beti ko fasaya hai. Agar uske aas-paas bhi tu dikhta na toh tujhe dekh lunga", Kalpesh threatened.
(I'm sure you tricked my daughter into liking you. If I see you wandering around her then you won't like the consequences. )
Aarav was ready for something like this to happen so he said, " Uncle mai aapki beti se bohot pyaar karta hu. Bachpan se hum ek saath khele hai, padhe hai.”
(Uncle, I love your daughter a lot. From childhood we've studied together and played together.)
Before Kalpesh could retort, Palak said, "Suniye aap, gussa mat kijiye. Beti par thoda vishwas rakho. Ladka acche ghar ka hai, aur mai uski mummy ko janti hu. Kal subeh agar humari beti waha jaye, toh Aarav ki mummy humari beti par ek aanch nahi aane dengi.”
(Listen, don't be angry. Trust your daughter a bit. He seems like a nice boy and I know his mom. If our daughter marries into that home then her mother-in-law will take care of her. )
Listening to his wife he calmed down a bit. Kaushal, her kaka then asked, " Kya guarantee hai ki humari beti waha par khush hi rahegi?"
(What is the guarantee that our daughter will be happy?)
Knowing that his concerns were right at its place, Aarav said, "Usse kabhi dukh ho aisa kuch nahi karunga . Mai apki beti ki bohot izzat karta hu, aur usse pyaar bhi. Mai bhukha reh lunga pa abhi usse bhukha nahi rakhunga. Aur agar guarantee ki baat kare toh mai yahi mauhaule mein rehta hu, kabhi aa kar dekh lena, apka toh hakk banta hai.
(I'll never do anything to make her unhappy. I respect and love your daughter a lot. I will die out of hunger but won't let her be hungry. And if we're talking about guarantee then I live just across the street, you can visit anytime and check, it is your right.)
Hearing this there were tears in Palak's eyes, knowing that her daughter was cherished it made her happy.
"Dekho mai sach baat karunga. Mujhe abhi bhi tum pasand nahi ho par agar meri beti ko tum pasand ho aur agar wo khush rahegi toh mujhe koi aitraaz nahi hai. Toh bol Kriti, tujhe pasandha ye?", Kalpesh asked.
(See, I'll talk honestly, I don't like you but if my daughter likes you and she's happy then I have n roblem. So Kriti, do you like him?)
Kriti shyly nodded. Aarav then said , "Aap kahe toh mere parents ko bula lu, God-dhana ceremony ka saath mein discuss bhi kar lenge."
(Uncle, if you agree then I'll call my parents to discuss the engagement ceremony.)
"Haa bula lo", Palak said.
(Yeah, sure!)
After Roopali and Hiten arrived, it was an atmosphere of joy. Everyone was ecstatic and discussed how they could be business rivals in the market but at home they'd just be a family.
